back with some more post-strike content: 9/16/23 — Justin Hurwitz LIVE conducting the score of La La Land with a 52 piece orchestra/jazz band.

La La Land changed my life. when I saw the film in theaters as a Junior in high school I walked out of that theater a different person. I somehow hadn’t even heard of the movie until earlier that day — my dad told me he felt like God told him to take me to that screening. it may sound cliché, but God knew what He was doing. I wholeheartedly believe this film changed the trajectory of my life. as soon as Another Day of Sun began I couldn’t stop weeping, and I cried the entire 2 hours and 8 minutes of the film. In a strange way I felt like it was meant just for me.

La La Land was the driving force in my move to Los Angeles. It made me feel like I could really have the courage to chase my dreams. I felt like I saw so much of myself in Mia (I was a barista AND an aspiring actress driving a Prius!) this film has touched my heart like nothing else ever has. most people who know me know jazz is my absolute favorite, and Justin Hurwitz’s brilliant score has gotten me through many nights, drives, study sessions, cries, hard times, and life changes.

It’s my hope that EVERYONE finds something as wonderfully touching and awe inspiring as I do La La Land. It makes my life feel a whole lot richer. It can’t solve my problems, but it can inspire me to keep going. and keep going I will. here’s to the fools who dream. 💚
